Benefits of Participation


Each year, GreenKids schools receive:

  • Environmental education lessons, delivered by GreenKids educators, that support and enhance the state curriculum standards
  • Green school teacher training session for the entire staff
  • Support for energy reduction and recycling programs
  • $500 in lead teacher stipends
  • $500 field trip subsidy
  • $500 school project fund for infrastructure projects such as habitat gardens
  • Assistance in attracting community partners to support environmental activities
  • Guidance in applying for Maryland Green School Certification from the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education or applying to become a Virginia Naturally School
  • Support and resources as a member of the GreenKids Network upon completion of the two-year program

Who can participate in GreenKids?

  • All Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) elementary, middle and high schools are eligible to apply
  • All Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) elementary, middle and high schools are eligible to apply
