Welcome to the Audubon Naturalist Society, the largest and oldest independent environmental organization in the Washington, DC region. A pioneer in linking conservation activities with environmental education, ANS:
- Reaches more than 8,000 children each calendar year through its nature preschool and family, scout, school, and camp programs
- Offers adults a rich variety of natural history classes, local outings, and national and international travel experiences
- Works with a network of civic and environmental groups on conservation issues, such as transportation, watershed and rural lands protection, and climate change
- Manages three wildlife sanctuaries: Woodend, Rust, and Webb
- Hosts numerous special events, including the annual Nature Fair, Auction & Reception, and Bloomin' Birdathon.
- Publishes the Audubon Naturalist News four times a year and broadcasts the Audubon eNEWS monthly
- Operates the Audubon Sanctuary Shop at Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD, Rust Sancturay in Leesburg, VA, and online. All offer a large selection of birdseed, bird feeders & houses, natural history/environmental books & DVDs, binoculars, and children's gifts.

Mission Statement
The Audubon Naturalist Society fosters stewardship of the region's environment by educating citizens about the natural world, promoting conservation of biodiversity, and protecting wildlife habitat. Founded in 1897, the independent nonprofit society focuses its efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Part-time Accountant

Part-time Development Coordinator (32 hours/week)
ANS seeks an energetic, highly motivated individual with strong membership database and analytical skills to manage its member renewal, retention and recruitment efforts. Position responsibilities include, coordinating and managing in-house renewal series, generating gift acknowledgments and new member packages, managing data entry, responding to member inquiries, generating in-depth analysis and reports on giving; and assisting with direct mail fundraising and on-line recruitment efforts. Qualified candidate MUST be proficient in Raiser's Edge with minimum 2 to 3 years experience working in a nonprofit membership department. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and fundraising via the internet is highly preferred. Flexible work week with health, life, LT disability and vacation benefits. Summer Camp Director
The Audubon Naturalist Society is seeking a dynamic, creative individual to direct its popular summer camp program, which offers 55 day and summer camps each year. Most camps target elementary-aged children and are based at our 40-acre nature sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Maryland. ANS also offers traveling and overnight experiences for middle and high school students. Our camps emphasize nature and environmental themes. They run for nine weeks during the summer and target children ages 4-15.
Responsibilities of the positions include developing and promoting camp offerings, creating and monitoring camp budgets, hiring and training camp staff and interns, serving as an instructor for a few camps, obtaining supplies, coordinating activities with ANS staff, managing facilities during summer camp, and overseeing the implementation of safety and administrative requirements including licensing. Experience teaching children and relevant administrative experience is required. Camp experience preferred. A background in environmental or outdoor education is highly desirable.

Seasonal Part-Time Environmental Education Naturalist Position
The Audubon Naturalist Society seeks a seasonal, part-time naturalist to work in School Programs in the Environmental Education Department. Position located at the Woodend Nature Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD. Casual, friendly work environment.
Position Responsibilities:
Teach, lead and serve as a contact for ANS School Programs
Requirements:
Experience working with children a must (Ages 4-13)
Experience leading informal environmental education lessons/programs
Desired Qualities:
Experience with natural history of Maryland
Experience working/teaching in an outdoor setting
Ability to work independently
Outgoing and friendly
Organized and ability to multitask
Excellent communication skills
General Schedule: Average work week will be approximately 10 hours per week mid-September through mid-June, with more hours possible in the spring season.
Pay: $12/hour; this position does not offer additional benefits.

Naturalist News
Audubon Naturalist NEWS is mailed quarterly to our members and distributed free at local libraries and selected retail outlets. This 16-page journal, printed on 30% post-consumer waste paper with soy inks, contains feature articles and columns, ANS community and conservation campaign news, and a pullout calendar section. Members who wish to read their NEWS online and opt out of receiving a printed version should email membership or call 301-652-9188 x12.
